Our Story

Why Bestie Button exists

Bestie Button was created from a simple but powerful truth:
too many women don’t feel safe in everyday moments that should be ordinary.
Walking home. Meeting someone new. Splitting up on a night out. Waiting for
transport.

These aren’t extreme situations — they’re daily life. And yet for millions of
women across UK and Ireland, they come with planning,
anxiety, and silent compromises.

The reality women face
The data tells a story women already know.
Across United Kingdom and Ireland, women consistently
report feeling unsafe in everyday public spaces:

  • In the United Kingdom, nearly 9 in 10 women feel unsafe walking at
night, with 71% changing their routes to avoid darkness. Many women
alter their daily behaviour — avoiding events, rushing home, or
spending money on taxis — simply to feel safer.
  • In Ireland, over half of women do not feel safe walking alone at night,
almost six in ten feel unsafe using public transport, and an overwhelming 93% report feeling more vulnerable purely because of
    their gender
  • In Northern Ireland, only 27% of women feel safe in parks or open
spaces after dark, and more than one in three believe accessing help
would be difficult if they needed support.

These numbers don’t mean women are powerless — they show women are
constantly aware.

What we kept hearing
We heard the same things again and again:

“I just want someone to know where I am.”
“I don’t need the police — I need my people.”
“I want help without drawing attention.”

Bestie Button was built for those moments in between.
Not emergencies — but uncertainty.
Not fear — but independence.

Why Bestie Button is different
Bestie Button isn’t about watching, tracking, or limiting movement.
It’s about connection and control.
It allows women to:

  • Quietly let trusted people know they’re safe
  • Share their location without unlocking a phone
  • Signal discomfort before a situation escalates
  • Stay independent while staying supported

All without attention. All without explanation.

Our belief

We believe:

  • Feeling safe shouldn’t require constant vigilance
  • Independence shouldn’t mean isolation
  • Support should be one button away

Bestie Button exists because confidence grows when someone’s got your
back.

It’s for women living full lives — not limited by fear, but supported through
awareness.

This is just the beginning
We’re proud to be part of a wider movement — one that acknowledges the
reality women face while building tools that support freedom, not restriction.
Small button. Big support.
